Furniture made the way plywood is: layer on layer.
Layera is a furniture idea built on one material and one honest joint. We shaped its story and rendered its first chair, from macro studies of the ply to the full assembly, so the joinery does the selling.
The idea
Every part begins as thin sheets of wood, bonded grain across grain. The stack is stronger than any single sheet, and its edge shows it: one stripe for every layer.
The parts are cut flat and joined by slots. Each piece locks the next, so the chair is held together by its own geometry.
Flat in the box, solid in the room. Layera goes together by hand and keeps the honest edge of its material on show, as the only ornament it needs.
